Who the jute rope suits
A good fit when
The post is shredded and the cat tree is fine. Unwind the old rope, wind on new: 6 mm and 8 mm are the usual sizes for a post, and 50 feet covers a short one.
The rope is natural jute. It runs from 5 mm, sold as 98 ft and as two coils of 98 ft, through 6 mm in 50, 66 and 132 ft and 8 mm and 10 mm in 50 ft, up to 12 mm in a 33 ft coil for handrails, lamps and baskets.
Know before you buy
- Work out the length first. A 4-inch post takes about a foot of 8 mm rope for every 0.3 inch of height.
- Jute has a natural smell when new. Air it for a day before it goes indoors.
- It is a craft and garden rope, not a climbing or load rope.
- Keep it away from open flame.

I bought this for my cat scratchers. It is versatile. I can also use it to keep my front door opened too. It's nice and durable.

Great for crafting. The ends do fray really easy so be aware of that

This is our 2nd roll and I just ordered a 3rd! For our cats, this is the only rope that they like and it holds up well considering! It's used daily by them and lasts almost a year, so that's perfect. The price per roll is perfect and it's easy to put on. I wrap it around the 2x4 that comes on our cat tree, pulling it tight as it comes around the corners as well as tight to the row before it. I use my crown stapler about every 2 1/2" to keep it taut and it holds up well with this technique.

Jute Rope, 5 to 12 mm: what people ask
What thickness of jute rope is best for a cat scratching post?
6 mm or 8 mm. The Jute Rope comes in 6 mm coils of 50, 66 and 132 ft and an 8 mm coil of 50 ft.
How much jute rope do I need for a cat scratching post?
Multiply the height of the post by its girth and divide by the rope thickness. A post 20 inches tall and 4 inches across takes about 67 feet of 8 mm Jute Rope, so plan on 2 coils of 50 ft.
