Which twine is safe for cooking?

Plain cotton. The Cotton Butcher's Twine is undyed food grade cotton in 1 mm and 2 mm. Jute sheds fibres and has its own smell, so it stays out of the oven.

Cotton twine is a food-safe, environmentally friendly twine option used in baking, butchering, food packaging, and more.

Twine holds the bird together. It does not tell you when the bird is done. A thermometer does that.

What temperature does a trussed turkey need?

165 °F in the thickest part. Trussing with 2 mm twine keeps the legs and wings close so the bird cooks evenly, and the safe temperature stays the same.

A whole turkey is safe when cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165 °F, as measured with a food thermometer.

How thick should garden twine be?

3 mm for tomatoes and climbers. The 3 mm Jute Garden Twine is soft enough not to cut a stem and holds through a season. Use 2 mm for light ties and labels, and 4 mm to hang a planter.

Which rope do you wrap a cat scratching post with?

6 mm or 8 mm jute rope. Thinner twine frays under claws within weeks. A 50 ft coil of 8 mm Jute Rope covers about 15 inches of a post 4 inches across, so measure the post before you order.

This guide is about twine and not about cooking times. Cook poultry to the temperature your food safety authority gives.
